CMS recently increased the number of medical records that recovery audit contractors (RAC) can request in a 45-day period from hospitals that receive than $100 million in annual Medicare payments.
Prior to the change, RACs could request a maximum of 300 records per 45 days from all hospitals. Under the new cap, RACs can request up to 500 records per period from hospitals that exceed $100 million in Medicare reimbursement annually, according to the March 2 issue of AHA NewsNow, published by the American Hospital Association (AHA).
