An ounce of prevention: Keep HIM and coding running smoothly during EHR go-live

The last thing you need is more to do, but when it comes to preparing your HIM department for EHR go-live, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Certain tasks, done ahead of time, can help keep things running smoothly during the transition from paper to electronic.
“The most important thing you can do to keep work flow going smooth during the go-live would be to do your homework ahead of time,” says Darice M. Grzybowski, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA, president of HIMentors, LLC, in La Grange Park, IL.
So dig out your to-do list. You’ll want to add several important tasks to it to make sure your facility’s HIM and coding departments stay on track during the upheaval caused by EHR implementation.
