Combination codes simplify complexity of IR coding

In some ways, the changes simplified the coding for some dialysis access procedures, says Stacy Gregory, CPC, CCC, RCC, lead radiology coding consultant for Health Record Services in Baltimore, MD. On the downside, reimbursement has decreased with the introduction of the combination code. Although the decreased reimbursement is not wonderful news, CPT is moving back toward more all-inclusive codes, Gregory says. Component coding is starting to go by the wayside.
