The number of individuals affected on the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) breach notification website has reached the five-million mark, according to Frank Ruelas, director of compliance and risk management at Maryvale Hospital and principal of HIPAA College in Casa Grande, AZ.

The website, required by HITECH, includes reports from entities that suffered a breach of unsecured PHI affecting 500 or more individuals. The breaches date back to September 2009, and OCR made the website live in February 2010.

As of Friday, October 15, the website included 181 breach reports.
