ARRA brought us an expanded version of HIPAA. Along with it came the clear message that if the last time you visited your HIPAA policies and procedures was April 15, 2005, you have a problem.
The failure to revisit potential exposures to privacy and security breaches is one of the foci for ARRA’s privacy and security changes. A gap analysis is in order, but don’t be fooled—a proper gap analysis is more than a system review of use of passwords, firewalls, and other technology-driven measures.
