Prevent RAC DRG validation and complex coding denials

Medically unnecessary services and incorrectly coded items had the highest amounts of RAC overpayments collected in the demonstration project, according to CMS. Luckily, providers can make a great impact in those areas in terms of reducing RAC denials at their facilities, according to Stacey Levitt, RN, MSN, CPC, director of patient care management at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Levitt spoke during the April 29 HCPro audio conference, “RAC Complex Coding and DRG Targets: Prevent Errors and Reduce Denials.”
