Here’s a little bit about Denise:
What are your current job responsibilities?
I’m responsible for coding a variety of outpatient diagnostic records. I also work collaboratively with the patient account department to ensure accurate billing and resolution of claim denials and medical necessity issues on these outpatient records.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in health information management?
My cousin and mentor Cynthia Taylor, RHIA, of Jackson, MS, introduce me to HIM and becoming a professional coder. I could see from the beginning how coding would be a challenging career that would be evolving all the time.
What do you like most about your job?
All the different things I get to learn on daily basis.
What is your favorite area of coding?
Radiology, behavioral health, oncology
What is your least favorite area of coding?
Wound care
What are some of your hobbies?
Reading and watching movies
