A few years ago, Kristen Bliss, RHIA, RHIT, director of medical record management at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL, was tasked with developing a productivity incentive plan for her coders and transcriptionists. "It wasn't so much trying to instill a program to get everybody to be productive; it really was to incentivize them to go above and beyond," Bliss says. "So we reward what goes beyond expectation. The result has been an objective program that benefits both the hospital and its employees. (To view the resulting plan, see the accompanying sidebar.)
