Healthcare News: CMS issues Transmittal to address improper payment issues in OIG reports

On January 15, CMS released Transmittal 620 in the One-Time Notification Manual advising contractors to strengthen program safeguards to prevent improper payment for areas the OIG identified in the following reports:

The OIG recommended that CMS take appropriate action to correct Medicare’s vulnerability to questionable claims. The Transmittal states:

Contractors should use the information contained in the OIG reports mentioned above to follow the processes and procedures already in the Medicare Program Integrity Manual (Publication 100-08) concerning data analysis, contractor strategies and the progressive corrective action (PCA) process.
