Here’s a little bit about Peg:

What are your current job responsibilities?
My responsibilities include coding, locking and transmission of minimum data set’s assessment data, Medicare/Medicare Advantage assessment scheduling, and psychiatrist dictation. I also oversee medical records for current residents and discharged residents, release of information, and HIPAA policies and enforcement.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in health information management?
I worked as a receptionist, and the medical records person moved on so I took the job and immediately loved it.

What do you like most about your job?
Coding because it is very interesting, and there is always something new to learn.

What is your favorite area of coding?
I work in long-term care, so ICD-9-CM codes are my specialty.

What is your least favorite area of coding?
V codes

What are some of your hobbies?
My hobbies include walking, bow hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, reading, and crocheting.

Do you have a personal motto that you live by?
One that’s been around for a long time: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
