Q: We have a question about Dermabond wound repair. Should we code and charge only HCPCS code G0168 and no other wound repair for Medicare patients? Should we code and charge the appropriate wound repair but not code or charge G0168 for all other insurers?
A: Before January 1, 2006, HCPCS code G0168 (wound closure by adhesive) was intended for reporting wound closure with Dermabond. As of this date, G0168 has a B status indicator (codes not recognized under OPPS). From that time forward, report wound closures using Dermabond with the appropriate CPT wound repair code. CPT codes in this section denote closure using sutures, staples, and/or tissue adhesives. Report CPT codes for wound repair to all payers.
