CMS’ 2010 OPPS final rule addresses a new benefit, coverage of kidney disease education Medicare beneficiaries with stage IV chronic kidney disease receive from the outpatient departments of certain rural providers. Qualified facilities may provide these educational services in an individual or group setting.
Qualified facilities must be in a rural area and include:
-
Hospitals
-
Critical access hospitals
-
Skilled nursing facilities
-
Home health agencies
-
Comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facilities
-
Hospices
CMS also will reimburse hospitals reclassified from urban to rural status.
This tip is adapted from “OPPS final rule: CMS changes drug payment formula, physician supervision” in the January issue of Briefings on APCs.
