Understand challenges, opportunities with PET coverage

One challenge is determining when to provide patients with an ABN of noncoverage, informing the patient that he or she may be financially responsible for the FDG PET.
Another consideration is whether to sign up the patient for the National Oncologic PET Registry (NOPR). The NOPR is basically a research study CMS will use to determine whether it should pay for FDG PET scans for cancers not currently covered.
