A. Yes. At its January 2001 meeting, the APC Advisory Panel said facilities need to educate staff members regarding the appropriate coding of strapping and cast application services (APCs 58 and 59; APC 59 has since been eliminated). See AHA Coding Clinic for HCPCS, second quarter 2002.
The panel recommended training on how to apply the appropriate codes at its January 2002 meeting. A work group including the American Hospital Association (AHA), AMA, and CMS collaborated on a consensus article published in the AMA’s April 2002 CPT Assistant.
