Make Joint Commission readiness a part of orientation for all new staff members and provide ongoing training on it thereafter. Following are some general best practice tips for Joint Commission survey readiness:
- Develop a special section on your organization’s intranet devoted to compliance with state laws and regulations, the Conditions of Participation, and Joint Commission standards.
- Include information and updates in other communication tools such as newsletters and department updates.
- Provide feedback on mock tracer and ongoing records review (ORR) findings.
- Use the annual periodic performance review (PPR) to identify compliance opportunities and get everyone involved in correcting issues.
Editor’s note: This tip was adapted from the seventh edition of the HCPro book Information Management and Record of Care, Treatment, and Services by Jean S. Clark, RHIA, CSHA. For ordering information, visit the HCMarketplace or call 887-727-1728.
