New rules protect patients' genetic information

HHS released an interim final rule Thursday, October 1, that gives patients greater protections on their genetic information.

In part, the rule ensures that genetic information is not used to deny healthcare coverage and will “encourage more individuals to participate in genetic testing, which can help better identify and prevent certain illnesses,” according to an HHS press release.
