The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act provides a four-tiered system by which the government will assess the level and associated penalty of each type of hospital privacy violation. Hospital officials may wonder whether they should revise their internal sanctions policies to reflect the ITECH Act’s tiered approach.
