U.S. outpatient facilities won’t begin using ICD-10 codes until 2013, but they get a preview of the new system’s increased specificity with the finalized ICD-9-CM code changes for fiscal year 2010.
CMS released the final code changes June 10, and although the revisions include fewer new codes than in past years, the new codes provide more detailed information about patients’ condition and history.
