"When a member of the armed forces separates from the military, he or she will no longer have to walk paperwork from a [DoD] duty station to a local VA health center," President Obama stated in the article. "Their electronic records will transition along with them and remain with them forever."
The Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are working together to create a new EHR system termed the joint virtual lifetime electronic record to track veterans’ health information throughout the course of their military career, according to an April 9 article published by the American Forces Press Service and the Department of Defense. The system will allow both agencies to standardize the way they share information and improve the delivery of care and services to veterans who are transitioning from military to civilian life.
