CMS has partnered with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to commission a review of NPWT devices.
The purpose of this review is to provide information to CMS for consideration in HCPCS coding decisions and to conform with requirements of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008.
Glenn Krauss, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPUR, senior coding and chargemaster consultant at QHR in Brentwood, TN, says there is "conflicting information in the marketplace." Krauss says NPWT is a popular therapy with increasing demand, low treatment costs, high supply costs, and inconclusive clinical evidence supporting it.
