Complete and accurate code assignment requires a thorough review of clinical information, physician medical record documen¬tation, and follow-up queries, when necessary. But the business of coding is changing.
As coding has transitioned from a task to a role, cod¬ing professionals’ jobs have shifted. Coders must now possess more clinical knowledge, acumen, and intuition, and they must have more drive to identify missing or in¬adequate documentation. As coding becomes more inte¬grated into the revenue cycle, coders must perform their jobs faster and more efficiently than ever before.
