WEDI publishes recommendations for 835 implementation

In early 2008, the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange?s 835 Sub-Workgroup identified aspects of the 835 Health Care Claim Payment/Advice transaction (835) that it believed minimized the transaction?s effectiveness for the healthcare industry. The SWG believes the 835 implementation, which HIPAA mandates, is inconsistent across organizations, creating problems for providers, payers, and patients. ?[The problems] are and continue to be very real,? says Chris Apgar, CISSP, president of Apgar & Associates, LLC, in Portland, OR.
