It?s just one part of the much-publicized American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, but Title XIII, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, is a significant development for healthcare organizations. The stimulus package provides more than $19 billion for the adoption of electronic health records (EHR). However, the anticipated growth in EHR usage means there is a greater need to adequately protect patients? information as it travels between health record exchanges. To that goal, the HITECH Act contains provisions that aim to better manage the flow of PHI.
