It seems as though we can never stay ahead of the curve with respect to changes to Joint Commission standards.
The most recent changes pertain to publication of the 2009 revised standards for hospitals that use The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) for deemed status. Finally, The Joint Commission’s regulations are aligned with those of CMS.
Surveyors began reviewing the new standards January 1; however, they will not begin to score them until July. This month, I’ll describe where to find the revisions for the Information Management (IM) and Record of Care, Treatment, and Services (RC) chapters.
Please refer to www.jointcommission.org for more specific information pertaining to these and other revised chapters. Stay tuned for future articles that will address compliance tips for documentation-related standards.
