NIST releases guide to protect confidentiality of PII

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released publication SP 800-122, “Guide to Protecting the Confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information (PII),” on January 13.
NIST issued the publication to help federal organizations identify PII and determine the level of protection each case requires. The publication also offers safeguards for appropriate protection for PII and makes recommendations regarding PII data breach handling.
