More than 99 percent of hospitals participating in the Hospital Quality Data Reporting Program will receive the full payment update for 2009, according to a January 8 CMS press release.
The program applies to all hospitals paid under OPPS. Eligible hospitals that successfully report outpatient quality data receive the full market basket update; those that do not receive an update reduced by two percentage points.
Of 3,339 participating hospitals, 3,313 will receive the full CY 2009 update, according to the press release.
In 2008, hospitals participating in the program reported data on seven quality measures examining elements of heart attack and surgical care. The 2009 OPPS final rule added four imaging efficiency measures to the originals. Participating hospitals must report on all measures to receive the full update in 2010.
