Q. Does HIPAA require us to have both a security officer and a privacy officer, or may one individual fill both roles as compliance officer?

A. HIPAA does not require that the privacy officer and information security officer be two separate positions. You may assign both privacy and information security responsibilities to one individual and use a you deem appropriate.
