PPV: Understand new Joint Commission scoring systems, symbols, and chapters for 2009

Effective this month, The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) will roll out new accreditation manuals that you may not recognize. Why? The manuals will include completely new numbering and scoring systems and additional chapters.
For example, the Information Management (IM) chapter has morphed into two chapters:
- Information Management
- Record of Care, Treatment, and Services (known as RC)
This month’s article reviews the intent of each chapter, the scoring categories, and other new important symbols. February’s issue will address specific standards and their EPs.
