During the past three years, numerous legislative acts and regulatory rules have helped accelerate the adoptions of electronic health records, e-prescribing, and electronic claims processing. These rules and acts have the potential to increase the efficiency of recordkeeping and claims processing, prevent medical errors, and reduce duplicate medical tests, but only if HIM staff members can help ensure that medical information continues to be accurate and secure during these transitional times.
