CMS discusses RAC expansion, ICD-10, and never events
CMS hosted a Hospital & Hospital Quality Open Door Forum (ODF) conference call October 9, during which it discussed several topics of interest to IPPS hospitals. Below is a summary of those topics.
A representative from CMS’ Division of Recovery Audit Operations, which oversees the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program, provided an update on the permanent RAC program.
Congress has mandated that the permanent program be operational in all 50 states by January 1, 2010. Subsequent to this ODF, CMS announced November 3 that it has delayed the Medicare RAC program and put a moratorium on all RAC-related information sessions across the country.
