Decipher integumentary codes for correct coding

Organize your approach to get repairs right, said Susan Garrison, CHCA, PCS, FCS, CPC, CPC-H, CCS-P, CHC, CPAR, executive vice president of healthcare consulting services at Magnus Confidential in Atlanta in a recent HCPro audio conference. Dispel the assumption that an integumentary code is the only solution. Decipher complex repairs and be attentive when adding up incisions. Ask yourself, and the physician, logical questions that march you to the correct code.
The lesson, Garrison said, is to be aware of all your options when coding notoriously difficult integumentary procedures. A good process allows you to arrive at the most specific code that best represents the procedure the physician performs.
