Confront release of information challenges

Occasionally, special situations arise in which a patient may be unable to execute an authorization to release information. One example of this is when information requested pertains to a deceased patient.
When a patient is unable to sign a release of information (ROI) authorization form, ROI staff members must apply certain rules in the process of obtaining a valid signed authorization.
Consider the following situations and how to handle them:
