OIG to continue monitoring privacy and security oversight, enforcement

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) will continue monitoring CMS and OCR HIPAA security rule and privacy rule oversight in fiscal year 2009, according to the OIG Work Plan released October 1.
The Work Plan provides for OIG review of CMS’ security rule oversight, implementation, and enforcement. The OIG also will assess whether OCR oversight of privacy rule compliance is adequate.
