Outsourcing medical billing, coding, and transcription overseas yields significant savings for healthcare providers, but the practice also puts PHI beyond the reach of HIPAA, and that’s too high a price, says Erica Schwalm, CPC, CPC-GENSG, CMRS, a coding and reimbursement specialist at Hamden County Physician Associates in Ludlow, MA.
