CMS reminds healthcare providers with NPIs that have records in the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) to keep their information secure and up–to-date, according to a September 11 Communication.
Providers should reset NPPES passwords at least annually and review NPPES records to keep information updated, according to the CMS Web site. Providers should maintain their own NPPES account information, including their password, user ID and secret question/answer for security reasons, according to the Communication.
Providers, including physicians and nonphysician practitioners, can modify their NPPES records at https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/Welcome.do and clicking the NPI link.
