CMS has announced a revised timeline for the rollout of its Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program, according to AHA News Now. According to that publication, CMS will announce the RAC contractors by October 1.
You can view a map of the RAC expansion schedule at the CMS Web site. The map contains state-by-state timelines for the rollout, which will occur in three phases (October 1, 2008; March 1, 2009, or August 1, 2009/later).
Hospitals in phase one of the rollout aren't likely to receive requests for medical records until January 2009, according to AHA News Now.
