CMS will post sample findings and lessons learned from the security compliance reviews it began conducting in January 2008, according to information on its Web site.
CMS currently has posted a compliance review case study related to the loss of a portable device. The scenario describes a complaint-based compliance review of a hospital that experienced a security breach when a laptop computer containing ePHI about thousands of patients was stolen. The case scenario includes the Office of E-Health Standards & Services audit response and corrective action plan.
Additional examples are forthcoming, according to CMS.
