A: On August 4, CMS issued a fact sheet summarizing additions to the list of selected hospital acquired conditions that will have Medicare payment implications beginning October 1. In the IPPS fiscal year (FY) 2008 final rule, CMS selected eight categories of conditions for the HAC provision, and in the IPPS FY 2009 final rule, CMS identified three additional categories of candidate conditions.
