Florida state officials say that thousands of organ and tissue donors may be victims of a security breach, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported July 7.
A database containing the donor information, including Social Security numbers, addresses, birth dates, and driver license numbers, was accessible by unauthorized users for a short period of time in late June, according to the article.
Holly Benson, Agency for Health Care Administration secretary, told the newspaper that it doesn’t appear as if the information was accessed inappropriately. However, the organization thought it was wise to alert the donors and the public of the occurrence.
