ONCHIT announces contract to assess medical identity theft

HHS’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) has announced a contract with Booz Allen Hamilton to determine the extent of medical identity theft in the
"The prevention and detection of medical identify theft along with actions to address problems that may occur as a result of medical identity theft, are necessary steps to build consumer trust in electronic health information exchange. In order to build that trust, all aspects of the problem must be understood including how health IT provide opportunities for prevention, detection, and remediation," Robert Kolodner, MD, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, said in the release.
The three-phase project will include a baseline assessment of the problem, a town hall meeting in Washington, DC during October, and a final report and road map that will summarize issues and offer future steps, according to the press release.
