HHS’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT), has released its strategic plan for 2008–2012, according to the agency’s Web site.

The plan, released June 3, aims to achieve two goals, patient-focused healthcare and population health as well as four objectives:

  • Privacy and security
  • Interoperability
  • Adoption
  • Collaborative governance

The plan also outlines strategies and a timeframe for meeting objectives.

“The ONC-Coordinated Federal Health Information Technology Strategic Plan sets forth a number of goals, objectives, and strategies that, for the first time, brings together all federal efforts in health IT in a coordinated fashion,” Robert M. Kolodner, MD, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology said in the report.
