CMS discusses FY 2009 IPPS, IRF-PPS proposed rules, clarifies patient status errors, and more

CMS hosted a hospital Open Door Forum (ODF) call April 24, in which representatives discussed several inpatient-related topics that are outlined below.
New quality measures
Nearly 95% of hospitals that participated in the pay-for-quality data reporting program in fiscal year (FY) 2008 received the full market basket update, a CMS representative stated during the ODF call. And hospitals will need to continue this trend in FY 2010, as CMS proposes in the FY 2009 IPPS proposed rule to add 43 new measures to the existing 30, including new measures for nursing care, patient safety, and stroke.
