Nurse Matthew J. Wiseman of Sentara Bayside Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA, faces credit card theft and credit card fraud charges for allegedly stealing the credit card of the deceased patient, Michael Puopolo, according to an April 2 article in The Virginian-Pilot.

Wiseman allegedly purchased an $1,800.00 laptop computer at BestBuy only hours after the patient was pronounced dead. The decedent's wife discovered her husband's money clip-a gift to her husband on his last birthday-was missing along with his credit cards and cash soon after his death, according to the article.

"We sincerely regret that a grieving family is suffering the additional hardship caused by this incident," Cheri Hinshelwood, a Sentara Healthcare spokesperson told The Virginian-Pilot. "Sentara Healthcare is committed to ensuring a safe environment for our patients, including protection of their privacy and their personal possessions."

Wiseman no longer works at Sentara Bayside.
