Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) specialists who wish to get physicians and hospital administration on board with a CDI program can point to the following sources updated last week that allow the public to view hospital data:

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
On March 26, The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) released its annual "state snapshots". The state snapshots provide state-specific healthcare quality information, including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. According to the AHRQ, the goal of the information is to help state officials and their public- and private-sector partners better understand healthcare quality and disparities in each state.View the 2007 state snapshots.

CMS fact sheet detailing Medicare payment and volume information for consumers
On March 28, CMS issued a fact sheet announcing that it has begun posting information on the Hospital Compare Web site about selected inpatient hospital stays provided to Medicare patients, including how often patients were admitted to the hospital for these conditions and what Medicare pays for these services.View the fact sheet.
