Your organization is probably settling into a compliance routine-but don't get into a rut. Your staff members may not know the ins and outs of patient privacy to the extent that you hope. Staff members retire, new ones come aboard, and even those who have been in their positions for a while might have lingering questions about what they can and cannot do with PHI. Maintaining open lines of communication between employees and your facility's privacy officer is essential to continued compliance and good stewardship of patient data.
