All cell phones and laptop computers are now prohibited in UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, according to a March 18 article in the Los Angeles Times. The hospital ban became effective March 3 after a patient posted photos of other patients on a social networking Web site.

All of the patients reportedly consented to being photographed. However, the ban on cell phones and laptops is part of "ongoing efforts to enhance patient privacy and confidentiality," Dr. Thomas Strouse, the hospital's medical director, said in a public statement.

The hospital will continue to provide conventional telephones throughout the hospital, according to the article.
