Many health information technology (IT) executives believe that uniform verification of security is critical to protect health information, according to a recent survey commissioned by the Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST). HITRUST announced the results of the survey that KRC Research conducted in a March 3 press release.
The survey showed that health IT leaders worry most about loss of customers' trust in the event of a security incident. According to the press release, the survey also found:
- Ninety-six percent of participants feel it is important to have a uniform way to verify the security of healthcare information
- More than three-quarters of participants believe common standards and practices would enable them to more easily approach management to obtain funding for information security
- Eighty two percent of participants believe a common security framework would help them secure electronic information
- Two-thirds of participants believe a major security breach "is inevitable if action is not taken in the security arena"
- Nearly three-quarters of participants don't believe their business partners have sufficient security measures in place
