In an effort to further protect patient privacy, the New Hampshire house committee is considering legislation (House bill 1587) that proposes privacy requirements that go above and beyond HIPAA, according to a February 10 article in Foster's Daily Democrat.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Cindy Rosenwald (D-NH) and Rep. Neal Kurk (R-NH), contains a provision that allows individuals to request an audit trail of who accessed their information, when they accessed it, and what portion of their record was accessed, according to the article. The bill also seeks to impose stricter regulations on patient data used for medical research.
