New Jersey Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield members may find themselves the victim of a security breach thanks to a stolen laptop, according to a January 30 article in the New Jersey Star Ledger.

The laptop, which contained data on more than 300,000 members, was stolen January 5 from the home of a Blue Cross/Blue Shield employee who regularly worked with member data, according to the article. Information on the laptop included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and other personal information about members, though no medical information was present on the laptop.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield doesn't believe that the information has been compromised and is offering a year of credit-monitoring, according to the article. The data was password-protected, though not encrypted, and the laptop was programmed to destroy the data stored on the machine as of January 23.
