CMS, with the help of PricewaterhouseCoopers, will conduct 10-20 on-site security reviews over the next nine months, according to a January 17 article by Government Health IT.
CMS will initially review hospitals against which CMS has received a complaint about security practices, as well as larger hospitals nationwide, Tony Trenkle, director of CMS' Office of E-health Standards and Services (OESS), told Government Health IT.
Trenkle also told Government Health IT that OESS will post a list of security practices covered in the security rule on their Web site prior to the start of the reviews.
CMS will report on its findings after the reviews are complete, though the publication will not publish the names of the organizations reviewed, according to the article.
